Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tbsp chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix cornstarch and flour.
  2. Dip chicken pieces in beaten egg, then coat with the flour mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry chicken until golden brown (about 5 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan and simmer for 3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Add the fried chicken back to the pan, tossing to coat evenly.
  7. Garnish with orange zest and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes for more or less heat.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
